Our 6 Cord Braided Elastic is a strong, lightweight and flexible flat elastic, measuring approximately 4.5mm wide. Designed with six individual elastic cords enclosed within a durable braided outer sheath, it provides excellent stretch and recovery for a wide range of sewing, clothing and haberdashery applications.

The braided construction gives the elastic its distinctive ribbed appearance while keeping it thin, soft and easy to work with. With approximately 100% stretch, the elastic can stretch to around twice its original length before returning towards its original shape.

How to Use Braided Elastic

Braided elastic is generally best used inside a fabric casing or channel. Unlike some other types of elastic, braided elastic narrows when stretched and can lose strength or elasticity if repeatedly sewn directly through the centre, as the needle may damage the internal rubber cords.
